Christmas Wish List

One more day and it will be September. And once "ber" months starts,I could feel Christmas is in the air. How time flies, have you started your Christmas shopping already? =).. Anyway,a few months ago,I had written a Christmas wish list. Here it goes.

Apple Mac Book (52,000 pesos). I'm still reading some reviews about Mac Book because really it is expensive.

Iphone 3G(40,000 pesos). What's not to love about this Iphone. A phone wherein I can do almost everything from multimedia messaging, watch movies or listen to music or check emails. It also runs on OS 3.0 with built-in GPS. In case, your phone is stolen with the use of any computer you can find it and sends a message that instruct anyone who finds or buys your phone to call you.

Food blog: Dinner at Lov's house

Last night, we (me, yam and abby) were invited by Lov to have dinner at their house. Nothing fancy just a simple meal prepared by Lov. Although the food was simple, there is something profound about a humble meal of rice, prawns, mongo and lumpia.

Garlic prawns

Lumpia Shanghai

Munggo Soup

Mango tapioca

Chocolate cake from Postrio.

We ended up going home almost midnight. We had a lot of catching up over delicious food.

Thanks lov for the sumptuous dinner!

Awareness Blog:Dengue Fever

My friend's son was admitted at the hospital last tuesdsy night due to a 3 days fever with vomiting and stomach pain. Laboratory test showed, he was positive for dengue with a very low platelet count.

There's a possible outbreak of dengue in some parts of the Philippines because more and more reports of dengue cases have been reported in the local papers just recently.

I have read that the mosquito that carries this disease does not breed in dirty contaminated waters. To understand fully about what really is dengue and how one catch this disease, I made a research and found this on a website(biotech.ph)

According to this website:
Dengue fever is a severe, potentially fatal, hemorrhagic disease caused by dengue viruses, which are carried and transmitted by the female, day-bitting Aedes aegytpti mosquito, the same mosquito responsible for the Yellow Fever.

One catches the dengue fever through the bite of the female Aedes aegypti mosquito. It is not transmitted from one person to person. The carrier mosquito inhabit and rapidly breeds in stagnant pools of water or tanks of drinking or bath water in the backyard of homes.

Symptoms includes: any abrupt onset of fever 2 to 7 days duration, skin rah, body malaise, pain behind the eye, headache, joint and bone pains, anorexia, vomiting, nose and or gum bleeding, easy bruising and cough.

Prevention: The best measure is to eliminate all possible breeding places around us  like pools of stagnant water in tanks for drinking or bathing, pools of water in the ground,in discarded auto tires, bottles, xcoconut husks, plastic container.Tanks of drinking or bath water must be covered to get rid of mosquitoes. DEET( N,N diethymetatoluamide) mosquito repellent are also helpful. US health authorities are recommending two more safe repellents: picaridin and oil of lemon eucalyptus.
Due to potential health hazards, fumigation(fogging) are not recommended and they do not kill the infective larvae.

Being aware will help prevent and eliminate dengue. So share this info.
Happy weekend!

Food blog: Spaghetti Factory

Meet up with my good friend at Ayala to recharge a bit from our work. At first, my friend wanted to go to a salon and have her hair pampering but instead, we sauntered over from one boutique to another.  After 2 hours, we were hungry. And since we wanted to eat pasta we choose Spaghetti Factory, a casual Italian dining place at reasonable price.

We ordered:

Carbonara Alla Elizabeth. Tastes good. Creamy sauce, loaded with lots of bacon, egg and herbs.

Lasagna.

We also had Hawaiian Pizza with cherries on top but I was not able to take a picture.

Rant

I'm going to rant, so please excuse the randomness of this post.I was irritated this morning at the office. This person's bag almost hit me and it was on purpose I was retrieving my mails at the mail box. Without warning and excuse this person just walked into where I was to get this person's mails, their mail box was just at the upper most of ours. I know I'm petite but hello didn't this person even saw me!and this person is not tall anyway. Good manners hello. I wanted to pull her hair but then again I need to control myself. But my mind was ranting.

A bit of back story. This person used to be my friend. But along the way, we just stopped talking to each other. I got tired of this person's bad attitude maybe because the feeling of friendship was never reciprocated. And really it shows how bad this person is because all friends of this person stayed away and everyone in our office witnessed how this person treated supervisors and managers.

Oh well, I don't want to ruin my day. Perhaps,a prayer would do and ask God the grace that I will just forget about it and have the heart to forgive this person.

I switched to linksy wifi

What's with smart bro lately? I have an on and off internet connection. I already called up their customer service and told me they would address my concern the soonest. I was planning of switching to PLDTs myDSL or Globe but then my landlady (since I am only renting a pad here in Cebu) have wifi at her house. So last night, I had a talk with her . She would just charge me a monthly fee 250 pesos. I just  hope it can handle the many things I would do online( emailing, finding a job at Odesk, downloading, surfing etc.)

I hope this wifi won't disappoint me.

Reserve Your Seat Now! 5 More Days Before The Virtual Assistant Seminar In Cebu

I know I have been posting this VA seminar almost every week but bear with me. This is really something you need to attend to if you are really serious to work from home. Okay, proof that American business companies are prioritizing to hire Filipino VA, read the press release below:

Press Release:

Filipino Personal Outsources Trump Counterparts in World Market
August 4,2010
by Jomar Hilario

Big Companies like outsourcing because it saves on staffing and other costs. But do you know that best selling authors like Tim Ferris' of the Four Hour Workweek Fame have personally outsourced their business and lives to Filipinos based in the Philippines?

The concept, originally made popular in Thomas Friedman's book "The World is Flat" used to be a totally Indian business. You email someone in India to write your book, create a poem, order pizza, create a report, create websites, create an apology letter to your wife for forgetting your anniversary - then order flowers for her.

Now it's the Filipino Personal Outsourcer who's very very popular in the world market as leading suppliers of intelligent personal / virtual assistants (VA) to the world's top business people.  We're especially popular to the American business man as we actually understand things like "under the weather" and "barking up the wrong tree" - idioms that other cultures have a hard time understanding.

Witness American sites like Replacemyself.com which is devoted to evangelizing to top leaders in business that Filipino Virtual Assistants are the only option for them if they want to outsource personal and business matters.  There was even an under-the-radar meeting in Boracay earlier this year featuring 80 international business people : the topic: Hiring Filipino VAs.

So how does one tap into this lucrative market and become a VA?   To get into this business early, you can personally learn from a Filipino who's dealt with Virtual Assistants since 2006: Jomar Hilario

Natural foods+ sleep= goodbye flu

Yesterday, I was down with flu. Miraculously, today my flu was gone and I was able to get back to work. And I did not take any medicines at that. By medicines, I mean those pill you pop into your mouth. It was so timely that I received Bo Sanchez's article "How to avoid getting sick"He said when we are sick our bodies are telling us a simple message: " Don't eat. I want to use all my energy fighting the disease". Our bodies wants to focus on defense. Instead , we should "arm" our immune system with weapons for the fight and that is by eating natural foods as  our medicines. So I followed what Bo said. The entire day all I had was banana and apple shake plus a lot of sleep. I was not even hungry the entire day, well probably because aside from your taste buds being depressed I do not have the appetite to eat.And to my surprise when I woke up this morning I was feeling well.

73 Best Lessons for Leadership Success in Business and in Life by Robin Sharma

Sharing with you Robin Sharma's lessons learned for leadership success in business and life. He is one of my favorite author having read his best selling book " The monk who sold his Ferrari".

  1. You can really Lead Without a Title.
  2. Knowing what to do and not doing it is the same as not knowing what to do.
  3. Give away what you most wish to receive.
  4. The antidote to stagnation is innovation.
  5. The conversations you are most resisting are the conversations you most need to be having.
  6. Leadership is no longer about position - but passion. It's no longer about image but impact. This is Leadership 2.0.
  7. The bigger the dream, the more important to the team.
  8. Visionaries see the "impossible" as the inevitable.
  9. All great thinkers are initially ridiculed - and eventually revered.
  10. The more you worry about being applauded by others and making money, the less you'll focus on doing the great work that will generate applause. And make you money.
  11. To double your net worth, double your self-worth. Because you will never exceed the height of your self-image.
  12. The more messes you allow into your life, the more messes will become a normal (and acceptable) part of your life.
  13. The secret to genius is not genetics but daily practice married with relentless perseverance.
  14. The best leaders lift people up versus tear people down.
  15. The most precious resource for businesspeople is not their time. It's their energy. Manage it well.
  16. The fears you run from run to you.
  17. The most dangerous place is in your safety zone.
  18. The more you go to your limits, the more your limits will expand.
  19. Every moment in front of a customer is a gorgeous opportunity to live your values.
  20. Be so good at what you do that no one else in the world can do what you do.
  21. You'll never go wrong in doing what is right.
  22. It generally takes about 10 years to become an overnight sensation.
  23. Never leave the site of a strong idea without doing something to execute around it.
  24. A strong foundation at home sets you up for a strong foundation at work.
  25. Never miss a moment to encourage someone you work with.
  26. Saying "I'll try" really means "I'm not really committed."
  27. The secret of passion is purpose.
  28. Do a few things at mastery versus many things at mediocrity.
  29. To have the rewards that very few have, do the things that very few people are willing to do.
  30. Go where no one's gone and leave a trail of excellence behind you.
  31. Who you are becoming is more important than what you are accumulating.
  32. Accept your teammates for what they are and inspire them to become all they can be.
  33. To triple the growth of your organization, triple the growth of your people.
  34. The best leaders are the most dedicated learners. Read great books daily. Investing in your self-development is the best investment you will ever make.
  35. Other people's opinions of you are none of your business.
  36. Change is hardest at the beginning, messiest in the middle and best at the end.
  37. Measure your success by your inner scorecard versus an outer one.
  38. Understand the acute difference between the cost of something and the value of something.
  39. Nothing fails like success. Because when you are at the top, it's so easy to stop doing the very things that brought you to the top.
  40. The best leaders blend courage with compassion.
  41. The less you are like others, the less others will like you.
  42. You'll never go wrong in doing what's right.
  43. Excellence in one area is the beginning of excellence in every area.
  44. The real reward for doing your best work is not the money you make but the leader you become.
  45. Passion + production = performance.
  46. The value of getting to your goals lives not in reaching the goal but what the talents/strengths/capabilities the journey reveals to you.
  47. Stand for something. Or else you'll fall for anything.
  48. Say "thank you" when you're grateful and "sorry" when you're wrong.
  49. Make the work you are doing today better than the work you did yesterday.
  50. Small daily - seemingly insignificant - improvements and innovations lead to staggering achievements over time.
  51. Peak performers replace depletion with inspiration on a daily basis.
  52. Take care of your relationships and the sales/money will take care of itself.

  58. All things being equal, the primary competitive advantage of your business will be your ability to grow Leaders Without Titles faster than your industry peers.
  59. Treat people well on your way up and they'll treat you well on your way down.
  60. Success lies in a masterful consistency around a few fundamentals. It really is simple. Not easy. But simple.
  61. The business (and person) who tries to be everything to everyone ends up being nothing to anyone.
  62. One of the primary tactics for enduring winning is daily learning.
  63. To have everything you want, help as many people as you can possibly find get everything they want.
  64. Understand that a problem is only a problem if you choose to view it as a problem (vs. an opportunity).

A flu and an early morning interview

It's 1:41 am and I am still wide awake. I am down with flu and fever but I need to stay up for my online interview for a possible VA(Virtual Assistant) job. It's been a month now that I have been applying as part-time VA through odesk. I have a regular job but I need to look for a part-time job that will not require me to be reporting in an office. So, I decided that work from home is the best option.

Anyway, back to my interview. The employer was nice and kept asking a lot of questions like do you have an experience as VA?..Actually, I have no experience yet as VA but I do have an online training as VA conducted by Jomar Hilario.I have to be honest with the interviewer because somewhere along the way he will find out if you are telling the truth or not. The interview went well. It took us about 30 minutes and I was feeling dizzy mostly during the interview but I managed to answer all questions. I just hope he will choose me to do the job. We were two actually vying for the position.

Wish me luck! =)
